Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a type of gum disease treatment that is also referred to as a deep cleaning. Our team will use specialized instruments to remove plaque and tartar build-up around your gumline and teeth before reaching down into your gum pockets to smooth and reshape the roots. This process encourages gum reattachment and minimizes the possibility of future reinfection. It can usually be completed in a single visit; however, we will determine if additional appointments are necessary during your scheduled consultation.

Antibiotic Therapy

As gum disease worsens, gum pockets begin to form, making it easier for bacteria to become trapped and attack the roots of teeth as well as the underlying bone. Since handheld tools can only reach so far, we often combine scaling and root planing with antibiotic therapy. Using Atridox, we will apply the medication to your gum pockets so that the tiny microspheres will slowly disperse over 1-2 weeks. It will target areas of bacteria, effectively eliminating them to create a healthier oral environment.

Soft Tissue Laser Treatment

For a more comfortable approach to gum disease treatment, we use our soft tissue laser. Emitting no heat, vibrations, or sound, this concentrated beam of light delivers greater precision, focusing solely on diseased tissues while leaving healthy ones alone. The laser removes existing bacteria without causing discomfort to the patient, which means it’s unlikely that any local anesthesia will be necessary before starting treatment.
