Wisdom Tooth Extractions Riverdale
Helping Patients Say Goodbye to Their Unnecessary Molars
The mouth consists of limited space and is usually only big enough to hold the permanent teeth that come in after primary ones fall out. By the time a person’s wisdom teeth erupt (late adolescence or early adulthood), there is unlikely to be ample space available, which means they either remain impacted (beneath the gumline) or only partially erupt. Since these teeth are not necessary for daily use, our team at My Riverdale Dentist can remove them safely in-house. Call our office if you believe it might be time to say goodbye to these unnecessary molars.

How a Wisdom Tooth Extraction Works

Wisdom tooth extraction can be completed in one of two ways: a simple or surgical procedure. When these teeth have partially erupted, our team will administer local anesthesia before using dental forceps and a dental elevator to lift the tooth and begin the process of moving it back and forth. This continuous motion causes it to detach from the ligaments underneath, leaving behind a vacant socket that doesn’t need to be filled.
If the wisdom tooth is impacted, a surgical approach is required. This means we will administer local anesthesia before opening the gum tissue and exposing the tooth and underlying bone. Carefully, we will remove the molar in pieces so as not to disturb the bone any more than necessary. When finished, we will close up the gum tissue to allow for proper healing.
